Using Origami Swap (the "Service") involves significant risk. Read this carefully. Only transact with assets you can afford to lose entirely. Nothing here is financial, investment, legal, or tax advice, and nothing on the Service is a recommendation to trade.
1. Counterparty risk (read this first)
Origami trades as principal and takes custody of your deposited funds during settlement. This is the defining risk of the Service:
- When you trade, you send your assets to Origami, and Origami separately sends you the asset you requested. Settlement is not atomic and is not guaranteed by a smart contract.
- For the window between your deposit and Origami's settlement, your funds are held by Origami, and you bear the risk that Origami fails to settle — due to insolvency, operational failure, compromise, error, or any other reason.
- This is fundamentally different from a non-custodial, trustless exchange. You are relying on Origami as your counterparty. Size your exposure accordingly.
2. Irreversibility & user error
Blockchain transactions are final and irreversible. If you send the wrong amount, to the wrong address, on the wrong network, or anywhere other than the exact settlement address shown for your quote, those funds may be permanently lost and cannot be recovered by Origami or anyone else.
3. Market & volatility risk
Digital-asset prices are highly volatile and can change rapidly, including during your quote window or while a deposit confirms. The value of assets you receive may fall.
4. Technical & network risk
The Service depends on blockchains and infrastructure that can fail, including network congestion and high fees; chain reorganizations that can reverse recently "confirmed" transactions; outages of networks, RPC providers, wallets, or price sources; software bugs; and security incidents. Any of these can delay, prevent, or adversely affect a trade.
5. Security risk
Your own wallet, keys, and devices are your responsibility. Phishing, malware, fake sites, and compromised wallets are common and can cause total loss. Origami will never ask for your seed phrase or private keys, or send you a different deposit address out-of-band. Always verify you are using the genuine Service.
6. Regulatory & legal risk
The legal and regulatory treatment of digital assets and of services like Origami is uncertain, evolving, and varies by jurisdiction. Changes in law, enforcement, or restrictions could affect the Service, your access to it, or your assets. You are responsible for ensuring your use is lawful where you are.
7. Liquidity & availability risk
Pricing and the ability to receive a given asset depend on Origami's available inventory and market conditions. A pair or route may be unavailable, and the Service may be unavailable, delayed, suspended, or discontinued at any time.
8. Third-party risk
The Service interacts with third-party wallets, networks, and providers that Origami does not control and is not responsible for. Their failure or compromise can affect your trade.
9. Tax
You are solely responsible for any tax obligations arising from your use of the Service. Origami does not provide tax advice.
10. No guarantees; possibility of total loss
The Service is provided without any guarantee of profit, performance, availability, or outcome. You may lose some or all of the assets you deposit or trade. Do not transact more than you can afford to lose.
11. Acknowledgment
By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted these risks, including the counterparty and custody risk in Section 1. This Risk Disclaimer is incorporated into the Terms of Service.
